I am a relationship coach, supporting people to create healthy relationships. I am contacted by clients at various stages of their relationship but all have something in common, they are unhappy with their relationship. Some people are in the process of a very painful break-up, some are stuck in a rut and feel disconnected from their partner and others have decided to divorce or separation trying to rebuild their lives and often navigating co-parenting. What I hear regularly from clients is they regret not taking action sooner.
Relationships are fun, frantic, interesting, chaotic, infuriating, crazy, delightful, energising, draining, complicated.
They are a whole mix of emotions and feelings and sometimes that can happen in the space of 24 hours. Each relationship is unique and will teach you something new about yourself if you can listen to the lesson on offer. The reason relationships feel tough is we aren't fully equipped with all the skills needed to navigate everything that goes on above the surface and below the surface. We often don't face the issue and challenges, instead, hoping it will sort itself out.
The majority of clients I see say the same words, if I have one regret it's not taking action sooner. For some, this may have saved the relationship and the heartache. Understandably, people don't take action sooner, this is born out of fear, not knowing where to start or how to take action.
The average person stays in an unhappy relationship for up to 6 years. Often by this stage, they see the only option is to end the relationship. This isn't the only option and it is possible to turn an unhappy relationship into a happy relationship with a little work.
